T-Rex Triumph

Grace is really into dinosaurs right now and was yelling and raising the t-rex over her head after she opened it. She's so cool. Posted by Picasa

Grace Thing

Grace got Thing hands AND feet from Santa. They make awesome noises of destruction when you hit them together (or hit something with them...). Every four year old needs a pair. Posted by Picasa

What's Missing

The sound of the subway rumbling beneath my feet. Sometimes when you're walking you can hear the announcements blaring underneath the pavement, "No uptown service blargetty blarg blarg garble...” Without the subway the sense of constant forward motion seems to be missing. There are only forlorn, cold pedestrians with arms anxiously raised, everyone searching for a vehicle, any vehicle, to take them where they need to go.

Of course, I am one of the few lucky ones who doesn't rely on the subway or bus to get to work or school, but I still miss it and feel incredibly anxious that it's just not running. For the first time since I've lived in New York City, through September 11th and a blackout, the Great Equalizer is stilled.
